Hello,

I Have a question that I hope some one can answer. Excuse me for my bad english. I have seen a boat that I want to buy, it looks nice and has all the options I am looking for. When I asked for a testride they had to prepare the boat for it when I was presend. It took a while and they had to make some adjustments to the boat. The problem was a small crack in the lower unit (i have pics on the net). The engine failed to enter the reverse, so they removed the propeller and tightened the bolt behind it, replaced the propeller. After that they started the engine and the reverse worked again. They also filled the tail of the motor with a lot of oil.
The people who owned the boat said they will weld the lower end, so the problem will be solved.
My question is, will this be enough, or will the lower end have to be replaced. All aditional information on this subject will be more than welcome. Than you for your time.

The engine is a 3.0 liter Mercruiser with an Alpha-one tail end.

The url for the pics is:

http://webdisk.planet.nl/hoe00154

Greetz Tjebbe.
Netherlands.

It is my personal opinion fomr the looks of the leg you will be interested in replacing the unit. You can get one for $1500.00

I would look elsewhere. I like projects, but I would have to get that boat very inexpensvely to take the chance. I would be curious what caused that crack. Has the lower unit been apart recently?

The Boat has been ouside during the winter and has been frozen. The problem in the Netherlands is that there is very limited choice. Thanks for the replies.

Is there also an option of repair, like welding the crack, or would that only be temporary? Any other suggestion on what to take notice for would be verry welcome.

What you see as a crack may very well be extensive corrosion. If you like the boat that much I would make an offer that takes into consideration replacing the outdrive or at least the lower unit.Charlie
