Dear Friends.

The other day I took my boat for anothe engine-prop sea trial but for my surprise I was very close to crash the same with the pier as >I had the idle speed in 1000 rpm and when I tried to shift to reverse, the same boat did not engage and the worse thing, I acelerated in reverse bo the boat was still moving forward. I pulled out the key and turn off the engine to avoid the collisision.

What exactly is this ??? I have a 350 mercruiser-chevy with alpha one.

any help will be appreciated.

I do not completley understand what you are saying. You shifted your boat into reverse and stayed in forward gear and accelerated when you were giving power (pulling throttle handle back) in reverse? Sounds like you need to make a cable adjustment or make sure cable did not break. I would lower your idle abit also...

Your idle speed is to fast, slow it down to around 850.

When you tried to shift from forward to neutral it went into reverse?
You need to lower your idle rpm to about 650. If that doesn't help you most likely need a lower shift cable.

And take a minute and read your post before you hit the post button. It is hard to figure out just what you are trying to say.

Re: Mercruiser do not shift correctly

Hi.

Thanks to all of you for answer my question and to make an effort to understand what I wrongly wrote, but I can see that all of you were able to understand what I was triying to say. Spanish is my native language and I speak some english but maybe I was sleepy when I wrote the post.

In regards of my question, yes when I shift to forward, the boat goes forward and when I shift to neutral, the boat either miss the neutral and engage into reverse or just continue in forward with the control in reverse position and I acelerate and the boat move forward and Last time this happened, I almost crash the boat with the ramp. I will start by reducing the RPM to 750 as you guys suggest to see what happen. Thanks for the tips and please excuse my english.
Any othe suggestion now that my message is more clear, will be appreciated.

You need to download the manual in the Adults Only section and adjust your shift cable...

if you feel more comfortable type it in spanish and Ill have my wife translate and repost it.
she is from Venezuela.
having worked in south America on some mercs volvos and outboards I would ask for some good pictures of the engine box paying special attention to the shift transfer mechanism.
not so sure about panama but I can tell ya in the caracas VE and the Rio Chico area most stuff gets severly cobbled.
