Mercruiser drive oil reservoir

Hi guys, I have 2 black wires dangling from the bottom of my reservoir. Are these meant to be plugged in to anything? I have a black wire and an orange wire with blue stripe lying across the top of the engine that may be what the reservoir was originally plugged into. What are any of these wires for? I can post pics if needs be. Thanks in advance! Engine is a GM 4 cylinder 181 cid (3.0L).

For the alarm. If the bottle gets empty, the alarm sounds. Double check that wire.. For the alarm system should be tan/blue... Plug one of the blacks from the bottle to that tan/blue, the other black to the spare black, doesn't matter which way round....
