mercruiser eating coils

mercruiser 4.3 v6 210 hp alpha 2001 model <br />engine keeps eating coils i cant seem to fix it any info would be greatfull voltage out of alternater 14.61 and the voltage going in to the coil is 14.52 is this to much if so what should i do .should i put a voltage regulater on if so what size type ect,or should i try diferent coils if so what type ,or is it some thing else causing the problem any help would be appreciated <br /> :confused:

Does this engine use a single canister type coil (ie not distributorless or anything like that)? Since this engine probably has an electronic ignition module, you need an electronic ignition compatible coil. If you use an ignition coil designed for points, its requires 8-10v, as opposed to a modern coil that can take unrestricted battery power. Also, if the coil is mounted near a hot item (exhaust etc.), it will kill a coil quickly. If the problem still continues, get an epoxy filled MSD blaster coil. Those things take a beating and I haven't had to replace one yet.
