I'm replaceing the stringers and floor in a 20' Baja I/O
350/alpha
I'm getting close to installing the engine mounts and engine. the plan is to lower the engine onto the new stringers, bolt up the rear to the transom assembly, then mark were to drill and install the engine mounts.
Heres wher the questions begin.
Once the rear engine mounts are bolted to the transom assembly does that take care of the left and right adjustment? then there is just up and down adjusted by the front mounts?
Also I have heard of an engine alignment tool. Can you rent these things? how does it work?
Any info on this subject is very much appreciated.

Yes, just up and down is all that needs to be adjusted. There is an alignment bar needed to align the engine. All it does is goes through the gimbal bearing and aligns the engine coupler to the gimbal bearing. If it's off, it will destroy the coupler in short order.
What year engine and drive do you have?

Thanks for the reply, that picture and description is exactly what I was looking for.
The boat is a 1987 the engine and drive are original so I assume there 86 or 87.

Re: Mercruiser engine alignment tool?

I always wondered....does one tool work for most all Mercruisers? Mine is a 69 160. Would it take the same tool?
