mercruiser exhaust question

My friend is putting a new 350 into his 89 Donzi. The exhaust manifolds are no good on the old engine and we were trying to come up with a cheaper way to do the exhaust. (I know you get what you pay for.) But we were still thinking about a set of headers instead of the manifolds. I see the marine headers which are just as expensive as manifolds and risers have a water injection to keep them cool. Would automotive headers get to hot and would there be anyway to keep them cool. We were just wondering about it. Has anybody ever tried it or have any ideas an making it work. And yes I know you should use marine parts not automotive but it seems like they make the marine parts so much more expensive. I understand about the elecrical and fuel intake and you would not want it to catch on fire but there has to be some automotive parts you could use to save money. Any input is apreciated.

Re: mercruiser exhaust question

I'd stay away from automotive headers for a boat engine. They may not get that hot however threatment of the part and resistance is not the same. They may run fine for a while but than you may have to replace them at the end of the season again.

You could maybe try used parts, check eBay...

that is what we decided too. I guess sometimes you got to put the money out and do it right.
