I have a 1988 Mercruiser Alpha I and I want to winterize and to do so I need to change the uppergear case oil. What is the gasket kit I need to order from here on I-boats. My Seloc manual sucks when it comes to part numbers.

hello
to just change the gear oil you will need 2 drain/fill gaskets. buy the new blue ones from merc. they are much better than the old black paper ones.
good luck and keep posting

rodbolt,

My sealoc manual says to do the upper gearcase housing that I have to pull the top "cap" and suck out the oil. Gaskets by definition cannot be recompressed or am I misreading something and the top of the drive held in place by four screws doesn't need to be removed?

Thanks

Pointer,
You're reading Something Wrong.........
To change All the drive Oil(both upper,+ lower), All you need to do is remove the drain/fill screw,+ the vent screw..........
Let it drain,+ Refill from the bottom screw.......

No Reason at All to remove Any parts from the drive, except the 2 screws.......

BTW, The Top Cap is O-ringed.... No Gasket......

Thanks Bondo and rodbolt.

My job just got easier. And the load in my pants a bit lighter. First year winterizing a MerCruiser on my own, thanks for the hand up.

Pointer
