I have a 1996 Bayliner it has a MerCruiser 3.0 LX Alpha One it has been sitting for 6 years and i changed the drive and the engine oil.I tried to turn it over but it would just click. I put some mystery oil in threw the spark plus holes to help the pistons out. From others who have had the same motor i heard that they need to be "broken Free" so that the started can turn. They said to turn the bolt which is on the crank shaft in front of the pully in the front of the engine. Although I cannot find a bolt on the pully there is some circular thing in the middle of the pully but i cant tell if it is a bolt or not if it is it is set in the pully because it is flat with the pully. Is there any way that i can turn the pully or the crankshaft inorder to "break the engine free" I have also noticed that there is some rust in where the hoses from the "raw water" intake connect to the thermostat, should i worry about this? Also is there any other tips i should do before trying to turn the engine over?

Thanks Guys.

Re: MerCruiser Help!!!

Sounds like you have yourself a project. :)

Personally. I'd yank the head off, take a good look inside. Cost you a headgasket, and some time. Maybe before doing that, pressure check the block for cracks..

-- Joe
