Hello All ,
I first must say please forgive my ignorance . I have a 1994 5.0 mercruiser (just rebuilt ,runs like a champ)that seems underpowered for my boat .2452 bayliner I have been reading on the subject and from my research I have noticed different horsepower on the same 5.0 engine . I believe mine is only 200 hp yet I have read of some having up to 260hp. My question is would i be able to get more hp out of the motor with modifications ? I am at the point where I am considering swapping out the rebuilt 5.0L for a 5.7L..I appreciate any help anyone could prossibly have on this , thank you

the 5.0 with multi-port fuel injection (MPI) can be found rated at 260hp.

however if you had the motor just rebuilt, why did you not opt for a 5.7 liter or something like a 6.2 (383 stroker)> the cost would have been about the same as rebuilding the 5.0

a stock 5.0 is a bit small for the 2452 bayliner

yes, you can get a bit more power out of your 5.0. depending on what it was built with regarding cam, pistons and current induction.

unfortunately the 5.0 has small bores, therefore small valves. however a good cam will wake up the 5.0 a bit. a 4 barrel intake will help too. best your going to get from the 5.0 is about the 260hp where you can get about 330hp out of a 350 and about 370hp out of the 383

list what you have in the 5.0 as far as piston type, compression ratio, camshaft profile, intake, carburetion, exhaust, etc. from there we can help

Thank you for the reply. I did not go bigger as I was not very well versed in the mercruiser (didn't know i could ,i went with what was in t he boat),I have had outboards my whole boating life . Lesson learned(the hard way) . I will post the particulars of my setup when I get back home. Thank you for your time .

If you have an Alpha drive, don't exceed 300hp, regardless of which engine you end up with....
