Hey Lions den.. I've never changed an impeller, but I do know where it is located. If you start at your fly wheel, you have a long to go to get there. Its located in the lower part of your stern drive. Are you sure your not trying to change your water pump?

Jim

Are you working on a circulating pump on a 3.7?

If so then the harmonic balancer must be pulled off to get the cover off.

Try: 3.7 Liter Merc Forum

There is alot of merc 470 or 3.7 info on this link.

Re: mercruiser impeller cover

There are 2 "pumps" in a 3.7L. The first is the impellar in the outdrive which should be changed seasonally depending on use and the other is the internal water pump that circulates the anti freeze.

Whatever you do never hit the harmonic balancer with a hammer it will disrupt the magnets and mess up your charging system.

Bob
