I bought a impeller replacement kit off of ebay for a mercruiser. But i have some extra o-rings and gasket that I havent seen before. Does anybody have a diagram or instructions on what goes where. And does the key go on the shaft before any gasket go on the lower impeller housing.

on the stern drive for the raw water intake. Do i have to buy the 3/4inch hose from the dealer. Or can i buy 3/4 inch heater core hose from auto repair shop. Wondering if this will work.

Sounds like you need a manual....But we don't know what manual to supply you with until you provide some basic information, like your drive ser number.

BTW...pump kits typically come with differing gaskets for differing drives... Use the ones that go for your pump.... Oh, yeah, the manual will guide you there, too! And the key goes on the shaft just before (or at same time) as the impeller, so the stuff below the impeller should already be in place (bottom of the pump, plates, gaskets...) HTH!

you install a lower gasket, steel plate, upper gasket, keyway, then:
1 install impeller on shaft, lower upper pump body while turning driveshaft clockwise
2 install impeller in upper housing turning it counterclockwise(holding body in right hand and turning impeller with left hand)

If that hose is in good shape, not cracked, I would not fool with it. It can be a HUGE pain to change.

Here is how you replace the impeller kit. Depending on which kit you have, it contains gaskets and orings for several different setups. Just use the ones your pump needs.

The o-ring you circled is a water slinger ring. It goes on top of the water pump housing after you install the housing. The key goes on just before (or at same time) as you install the impeller, which means everything below the impeller has to be properly installed first. The manual you have guides you through this. Look at page 3B-52.

Unless you are removing the bellhousing and replacing the driveshaft bellows you will find it extremely difficult if not impossible to replace that hose, so unless it is in bad shape forget it.

If you can't put that on the lower pump base housing and figure out which way it goes. You have no business working on it to begin with.
You have to be able to use some common sense along with the manual.
The thing will only fit one way.

You seem to be pretty good with taking pictures of the new parts.... Maybe if you would have done the same while you were taking it apart, it would have helped putting it back together.... Just sayin'. (I actually have recently started taking copious amounts of pictures of everything that I take apart these days. isnt digital photography a wonderful thing!).. Best of luck to you.

Re: Mercruiser impeller replacement 170hp 470

Are you reading the manual while you are going through this procedure? I just recently did mine (first time ever working on a boat and it took about 30 minutes), and the manual spelled out the process step by step even tells you which way the metal tab should go when installing the plate... If you have not already, go to http://boatinfo.no/lib/library.html put in the info for your setup and follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. We are all here to help, but you have to be willing to help yourself a little along the way as well.

Ok impeller installed and it ran on the ears for 35 mins and no over heating at all. The temp didnt go over 145 degrees at all. So i think the over heating problem is fixed.

Good job! Mighty challenging of you to go after the water pocket gasket, particularly if it wasn't leaking.... Alot of times after an overheat, those bolts are stuck good...and if you break one of those, it aint pretty.... sometimes to the point of needing to replace the whole upper!
