hello

this is a question you guys have prob. answered several times but i did not see it posted anywhere else. i just bought my first boat and it overheats instantly. from what i gather it needs the impeller in the lower unit. it is a 81 cobalt 19ft. with a 260hp chevy and mercruiser outdrive. how hard is it to replace and do i need any special tools. don't know a thing about boats but am learning (hopefully). any directions and advice on other things i should do while i have this apart would be greatly appreciated.

Not a bad job...Replace with the complete kit. Look for pieces of the old impeller. Never run or crank without the waterhose hooked up! Check this out...I think it might help you?

Lower unit impeller replacement

i don't know what the bellows, gimble bearing are and what should i check on the alignment on the drive. i don't know anything about boats so please be patient with me. i wouldn't be in this mess if i would have done some reading here first. when winter came last year i poured some antifreeze in the thermostat housing and started the boat to circulate it thinking that would be okay

I am guessing that the outdrive was still on the boat when you winterized it.If it was then you will really need to replace the impeller. As stated previously by another poster, never run without water hooked up,not even for a few seconds. Charlie
