Mercruiser inboard seized - lost cause or repairable?

Hello. I'm fairly new to inboard motors, but I've got a pretty good understanding of motors in general. I bought a mercruiser motor, 140 Hp. From what I understand this is the 3.0, but I've been unsuccessful searching the serial number. It is older, and had been sitting outside for a while, but ran good when it was put away. For the price I paid I figured I'd try it, and if it was no good I'm not out a whole lot but if it's good I got a hell of a deal. I did some basic startup things before going to far. There was very little oil in the pan, but there was some water, but i figured this could've been from condensation. So i added plenty of oil and tried to turn it over with the starter. No fuel or anything; I just wanted to be sure it would crank at all.

Unfortunately, it did not. Its pretty obvious the cylinders are seized. So, I soaked them in transmission fluid and penetrating oil, for over a week, to no avail.

Today I've started pulling the head off. Clearly they winterized it properly, as the manifold is full of antifreeze and antifreeze is leaking out around the head after loosening the bolts (I didn't drain it properly). However before pulling the head, I was messing around with the valves and realised I can't move them by hand or even tapping them with a wood block and hammer.

I have taken apart small engine heads before and shouldn't you be able to push them up and down?

So what do you guys think; if I get the head clear off, I was planning on filling the cylinders with penetrating oil. Is it worth it or is it to far gone?

Try soaking in Diesel as that is supposed to be a good solvent also... I am trying that on this OMC engine that was left without heads on it. Filled the crankcase with diesel several weeks ago and poured some into the cylinders. Pulling the block out this weekend so will see if the diesel worked or not.

cant un-rust the cylinder walls. assume the 3.0 is at best a core motor. I would look around for a running, used motor

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... I agree with Scott,....

Ya bought a possibly rebuildable core motor, not a runner,....
