Mercruiser inline six manifold modification question

achris posted awhile back about modifying the inline six exhaust manifolds to help avoid cracking. Since I am putting on a new manifold and riser on my dad's Mercruiser 165, I wanted to make sure I understood the procedure correctly.

(Here's a link to the original post: manifold water reversing post )

As I understand it, you modify the water flow to the manifolds as illustrated in the following diagram:

I have the blocking plate for between the riser and manifold - it came with the riser.

Questions:

1. Did I diagram it correctly? (Sorry for the crude drawing - I'm not an artist! )

2. When I replace one of the plugs on the riser with a 90 degree brass fitting, does it matter which plug I use? Here's my new riser - it has three possible plugs. Is it okay to only use one - or should I put a fitting on both sides of the riser and tee the hose to go to both? Is that overkill? Inquiring minds want to know! :D

Re: Mercruiser inline six manifold modification question

Mark,

You have the diagram right... As for the plugs and 90 degree fitting, The fitting goes in the top hole on the side that faces the engine, plug all the other holes with brass plugs. The blanking plate must have a small air bleed hole (about 1/8") in it.
