mercruiser lower unit alpha1

hi not sure if this is the right placeto post for lower unit.i got 1991 doral240 ex it has a 5.7 moter with alpha 1 lower drive .will a alpha 1 gen2 lower unit fit my boat .the alpha1 gen2 is from the mercruiser factory, new with scratches on it a few chips from handling. thanks for any info

Nope, the Alpha 1 doesn't interchange with the Alpha 1, Gen.II....

Very different beasts...

only thing i can maybe add is be sure ya got an alpha1.
it appears to me that '92 was the change year from alpha1 to alpha1 genII.
'91 does appears to be alpha1. not genII.

best i know, easy way to tell the difference is alpha1 has studs w/ nuts that hold the lower to the upper. genII have bolts that hold the upper to the lower.

Of course you have to look at the outdrive or go by serial number, can't go by year.

'91-'92 is the general area where the Alpha One, gen 2 drives came in. We have a 91 Sea Ray bought new with a factory Alpha I, gen 2 original drive.
