So my family purchased a used 2001 Ski Supreme Pro Am around 2010 and pretty soon thereafter we started to have problems with it shutting off intermittently while we were out on the water. The engine in the boat is the Mercruiser MIE 350 MAG MPI Ski. When the problem occurs its typically after we have been out on the water for a significant amount of time and well after the engine has been warmed up. While driving, the engine will bog down like it is starved for gas and tick and knock as it cuts off. If you let it sit for about 30 minutes to an hour it will typically cut back on and run fine for awhile and then it will eventually happen again.

At the time, none of us had enough time available to really get into the problem to try and figure out the cause so we really just stopped using it due to the frustration. We did have a boat repair shop look at it once and they replaced the spark plug wires, spark plugs, did a fuel treatment and replaced the fuel filter/water separator. When we got it back it seemed to run well and we thought the problem had been fixed but then it happened again and we were back to square one which led to the boat sitting unused for awhile.

Fast forward to now and I want to try and tackle the issue and any help figuring it out would be greatly appreciated. I am fairly confident that the issue does involve the fuel system somewhere along the line but I do not know where to start. I have used Seafoam on my cars in the past and had good results using it through the vacuum line and wanted to try it out on this engine considering it is older and probably in need of a "blowout". Which vacuum line on this engine would be the best one to use for the seafoam?

My opinion: others will be along shortly. Don't use seafoam (snake oil) until we figure out what your problem is. After problem has been found and you want to waste money, go for it

Being a 2010, I'm guessing its a MPI, but need serial number to verify. Look on the motor cover for the number

If it is fuel injected, go to a local auto store and rent/loan a fuel pressure gauge.

Ayuh,....... Welcome Aboard,...... Start by pullin' the fuel filter, 'n examinin' it's Contents, for anything but Clean Fresh Gasoline,......

'n I agree with AD,.... Seafoam is snake oil,......

Fixin' motors, or really, Anything starts with solid systematic Diagnosis, then repairin' or replacin' or removin' the Diagnosed failed parts, or foreign substances,.......
It also saves tons of dollars replacin' perfectly good parts,.....

Measure tge fuel pressure

Look into Rinda software to plug in and see what is going on
