wondering if any of the older MR/1/PreAlpha outdrive PTT pumps had any certain issues with the hydraulics? I just picked up a Crestliner Muskie-18 with the 120hp mercruiser and there's PTT oil everywhere and the resv. is low/empty. I did notice one of the lines to the reverse lock(I believe that's what the nylon hoses go to) was loose in the PTT housing. Are there any other areas I want to pay attention when I look at the unit? Thanks!

That would do it!. Those hoses don't last forever. I've had to replace a few.

Hopefully the fittings aren't screwed up. I'm pretty sure you can replace the T/T pump with one of the newer ones that has the reverse lockout incorporated in the pump. You bypass the rev cutout and just run two lines to the 'manifold' at the bottom of the outer transom assembly.

regardless of possible "issues" (you suspect bad batch etc.) spilling oil and emptying the reservoir is not normal, refill it with 10w30 (on Merc's) or as per your manual and tighten! all connections, test it, it will purge air by itself, loose connector on pressurized hydraulics will result in what you actually have
