I have an Alpha I Mercruiser outdrive in a 1996 Bayliner that is leaking oil from a source that I have yet to locate. There seems to be oil all around the gasket area where the outdrive bolts on. The gasket was recently replaced. Any ideas where my oil could be coming from?

Pull the outdrive and check the bellows for gear lube. Then drain the gear lube out of the drive and pressure test it. Then you will know what all you have leaking.

Also, pull the prop & check for fishing line in front of the thrust washer!

Let's see oil is leaking from around the area where a gasket was recently replaced . . . Maybe it is the gasket.

If it is just a little bit of oil and it does not persist after being cleaned up, then it may be just some seepage from when the outdrive was re-installed. Otherwise . . . The gasket. (o-ring)
