Mercruiser power steering help

I have an 1988 boat, (Sportcraft, originally came with a 5.0 liter engine), and I am putting in a new 5.7 liter crate engine from Mercruiser. I went to hook up the power steering hoses and notice that they have changed the fittings over the years apparently. My power steering cylinder accepts hoses with flare fittings, (a "small" and "large" fitting), while the new hoses are "o-ring" style fittings.

Questions: Does anyone know where I could get adapters, or even if such an animal exists?

If I bought a new power steering cylinder, would it mount the same as my old one? In other words, would it be interchangeable?

Look in yellow pages under hose - there
are shops that make up any type of hose
and fittings. Fuel-air-hydraulic - ect.

If new hoses are long enough - they will
press a new fitting on. Or make up a
short "jumper " fast and cheap fix.

A shop here in Cape Coral is J & M hose.
239-772-2008 I have used them many times.

Thanks elpaso, especially for the name of a specific company. Cape Coral isn't too far away. :) I might go ahead and change the power steering cylinder anyway as this one looks a little "iffy." Does anyone know for sure if a new one will bolt in as a simple replacement? In other words, do they mount on the transom the same?

Fishermark,
Yes, the P/Steering Systems Are the Same...
Except for the Hose Connections......
The Newer 1s can be found at ebay for less than $100. IF you Keep Watching.... I bought 2 Brand New In the Box for $68.00,+ then $53.00..
And these Are the New Style...

Re: Mercruiser power steering help

One last reply - for anyone else facing the same situation. I installed the new power steering cylinder and it bolted right up without any problems. Much "sleeker" and compact than the original unit I removed.
