Hello...i have recently purchased a 1971 Seaswirl with a 4cyl 120hp Mercruiser i/o...I have been battling problems with this boat but am making ground....I have ran into a snag and am stuck...

The motor is running beatifully first time start evertime and idles at about 750-800rpm...However when I go to engage either forward or reverse the motor lags and dies...I have disabled the Shift Interrupt Switch (temp) to see if that was the problem...with that done, I was able to get it to engage if I slowly feather the throttle, it then engages and will move, however I have to do this extremely slow...
From previous topics I am kind of leaning towards the carb...but am not 100% sure..
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated..
(also to make sure I didnt bonehead anything...the Shift interrupt switch is in the throttle handled right???)

Thanks in advance!

Look down the carb with the engine off. Move the throttle ever so slightly and see if your accelerator pump shoots any fuel in.

Thanks... I will take a look at that and see what happens...

Any idea on the shift interrupt switch? is it in the housing for the throttle lever? Am I seriously jeopardizing anything by disabling this temporarily?
