Mercruiser prop not turning

I have a 2001 Mercruiser Bravo 3 w/ a 5.0 liter engine. I was pulling a friend on a tube in open water Sunday. I accelerated and the engine reved up but we quit moving. I tried reverse and forward but no movement. Looked in the engine compartment. Looks like the engine to outdrive coupler was sheared. I did not hit anything with the prop.

Is this an expensive problem? I have an extended warranty but am wondering if Mercury will honor this. Anyone who has had similar problem or any advice would be appreciated.

You can always try for the warranty. The engine must be removed to replace the coupler. A good tech can do it in 4-6 hours.

Thanks for the info oldbaldfatguy. I made a couple of calls to mercruiser repair shops. Of course they want to look at it before committing to warranty work. I don't know how much discretion they have or if Mercury rep has to make the call.

Hopefully, you have had the outdrive alignment checked each year. If you haven't, I doubt Merc warranty will cover it. Check your front engine mounts and make sure the nuts are tight and the locking tabs are bent in place.
