What do I do? Should I have a prop reworked or invest in a new one. I have a slightly bent prop and a few nicks here and there. The numbers on my prop are 48-16314A45-17P. It is a Vengence SS. What exactly do they mean? I know 17P is the pitch; how much variance can be tolerated? Any suggestions on compatable props? Any shops out there willing to take on the task? My boat is the Genesis 2502 Cuddy Cabin with the 5.7L I/O. The boat is about 4200lbs with a WOT of 4200-4600.
After intensive research, I have encountered a "big" problem. Prepare yourself. My prop, stated above, according to the Vengeance prop site, is for a RH engine. My engine cover states I have a LH engine. Is this possible? I have noticed my engine's WOT is about 5000 by the guages now. Should the boat even run if the prop is not matched? WTH is going on here?

Re: MERCRUISER PROPELLER QUESTION

Oh, it'll run alright. Backwards. I suppose you could just shift into reverse and go forward! If your boat goes ahead when you shift into forward, then you don't really have a problem. :p
Seriously though, props can be straightened. What I would have to decide is this: Is it worth it? How does price compare between having your current unit straightened, and buying a new one?
Are you happy with that prop? The rpm's sound right to me.
I wouldn't want to run a bent prop for long - it's liable to screw up something in your drive unit.

Re: MERCRUISER PROPELLER QUESTION

Being that your prop is stainless you are talking some serious coin to have it fixed. The question is where do you boat and what do you want in the form of a prop. I was running a stainless 3 blade but my boat came from the ocean, I now run a 4 blade aluminum because I am in lakes and want a better pull for skiers and cheaper cost, plus the way my girlfriend drives the boat she is liable to ruin another stainless prop...... check this out watch ebay for used props you can usually pick up a used one cheap and try it out.. If you dont like it put it back up for sale.

www.boat-props.com/prop_characteristics.html
