is there a neat trick to clearing out the speedometer water pressure hole in front of lower unit, mine is plugged somewhere between the transom access and lower unit, I was thinking of running a piece of picture frame wire connected to a drill down it to try to clear the blockage ,,any hints? its a bravo three connected to a 7.4 gas eater..

Re: mercruiser speedometer port in lower unit

tuf----I had a clog in mine which bugged the heck out of me.

I disconnected the front end at the speedo and blew air back through.

I disconneted the small o-ring at the spot where the lower unit connects to the upper and blew back up to the speedo---speedo moved so that was okay.

Next, I moved to the lower unit. Put some WD40 down the hole where I disconnected the speedo tube and blew air from a compressor (LOW volume)down there and some crud came out the notch/pickup hole.

Then I blew some air back up the notch, using a plastic hose with a V-cut over the hole.

Repeated this process several times and it all seems to be working now.
