Finally got a trial run after cleaning the fuel vent-it had some fuel deposits that had run out and eft the "fuel drool" Ran fine until I hit 3000 rpm stalled again, would start, run for a minute or two and stall again. The D*** thing runs fine at idle.
So far, new carb, alternator, fuel filters, plugs, spark plug wires and timing checked. Reading some posts, wonder if this oil pressure switch is the problem, also wondering about the fuel pump, replaced two years ago by a "repout able" marina in MD after it died on the way home.

Is there a check on the viability of a fuel pump?
Bout had it with the boat....

Re: mercruiser stalling

A marine fuel pump vents directly into the intake manifold. If the pump fails it will bleed fuel into the manifold instead of letting it escape. If you have fuel in the vent line from the pump it normally means the diaphram is failing.

If you get a manual some manuals list the amount of fuel the pump should be putting out while cranking. You would measur this into a jar with the coil wire removed and be careful.

Now just to get you wondering... is the coil okay? When they start to go they act up.

Bob

Re: mercruiser stalling

How about some information on the engine, like model and year? Mercruiser made a lot of different kinds.

Re: mercruiser stalling

Unless you have replaced your mechanical fuel pump with an electric and installed an oil pressure switch to control it, you don't have one.
That is only on newer engines without a mechanical fuel pump.
You could try checking the fuel pump pressure, but sounds more like an air leak in the fuel system between the fuel pump and the tank or a clogged antisiphon valve or screen on the fuel pickup tube in the tank.
