I have a 1983 starcraft 17 foot bowrider with a 120 mercruiser inboard. It has seemed to run fine till this weekend. The boat started fine and i cruised around the lake at around 4000 rpms. Picked up some passengers and crusied around the lake with them and after i dropped them off at the dock and proceded to cruise some more it was like someone turned the key off. No sputtering just flat our died and would not start. Someone happened to have a coil from a truck so we put that in there and still nothing. We also tried to add fuel to the carb with no help. We then jumped from the plus side of the battery to the plus side of the coil and it finally started. Thinking the coil was my problem and that it wouldnt start with the other "new" coil in because it was flooded i ran with that coil. Starts fine cold or warm. Pulled a couple of skiers and tubers and again died like someone turned the key off. Bought a brand new coil and had the same results. Runs fine till it gets hot. Plugs, wires and cap were all new so i bought a new rotor and condenser. But still have the same result. It will work perfect to cruise to different fishing spots and then anchor but with sustained use dies and will not restart. Also tried running with the cover off and its always the same. 30 to 45 minutes into it would die and i would have to get towed back to the dock. Temp on my gauge was only about 170 and nothing seemed to be that hot in the motor. Also it seems that when this happens its not sparking. Any help would be appreciated.
