Mercruiser Sterndrive 370 170MR

I'm looking for spark plugs and an oil filter for this engine. I would like to use an aftermarket such as fram, champion or penzoil. Also what weight motor oil shoul I use - 10W40? I'm new at this. My son used to take care of this boat, but has moved away.

Is there something wrong with the OEM recommendations and parts? There is also more to a tuneup than just spark plugs, what about the points, condenser, cap, rotor, timing, carb adjustment etc. Why just the spark plugs.
