I just picked up a 302 MerCruiser and am putting it in a boat that doesn't have a hole cut for the outdrive yet. I was wondering where I could find a template for an Alpha 1 and Pre Alpha drive? Please help, thanks!

I created a CAD drawing for the template. I used it to cut the opening for my alpha I. You would need a copy of Deltacad to view and print it.

Below is a link to the Volvo SX template in .pdf format, same exact cutout. BUT, if you visit your local Mercruiser dealer, they probably have one they can sell or give you. If nothing else they can order the full size drawing for you and it only costs 5 to 10 bucks. It will make the job a lot easier.

along with the template, here is the Merc installation manual with even more information on how to locate the template.

Maybe.

When I did my conversion from OMC stringer, I asked at a dealer, who said they couldn't find it in their system. Mercury Canada has their parts warehouse 15 minutes from me, I went there, found out it was "dealers only" but the receptionist took pity on me, had an engineer come to the lobby to meet me. He knew the drawing I was talking about but said it wasn't available as a part anymore. If I bought a new sterndrive it would come with it.

So, plan B, I used the drawing from the on line installation manual, blew it up so that the distance between bolt centers matched the transom plate and printed it, used it to make a 3D template to pour Seacast around.

Re: Mercruiser Transom Templates

In that case, just use the Volvo template.
Like I said earlier, it's the same cutout as Merc.

Merc is getting more and more stupid about little minor things for the DIYers. Maybe they will have the service manager start spitting on their customers next year, and say give us money, we will try to fix your broken boat......... Grrrrrrrrr.

Ayuh,... I used your Volvo drawing to draw the alignment lines for the crankshaft centerline on my scrap of tin template...
It's a couple of foot square cut outa a Starcraft Holiday, 71, that had been refitted to a Alpha Gen.II by the time I junked it...
It's got All the holes,.. From the earliest Mod.1, to Bravo....

I cut in another Highliner a few weeks ago,...
Bobby happened to be swappin' out a Bravo transom then...
I grabbed the scrap broken outer transom shield, 'n the slightly corroded, broken in 1 spot inner transom plate...
I cleaned up the rusted studs on the housing, 'n used it for Test fittin',...
Worked great...;)

Hi guys thanks for your help. I couldn't get any of the links to download the mercruiser transom template. Can I find it anywhere else on Iboats or maybe a different link?

Hi Islander, welcome to iboats. It's against forum rules to post to a thread more than 90 days inactive, so you'll do better starting a new thread. Also, check you private messages. I may be able to help you!
