Re: Mercruiser trim broken
Here is a link to the manual you need...
he says he has a '79. that would be s/m 3 and 4 i believe..
My boat is white hull with blue top and seats.
if i had my choice, which i didn't, i would have gotten the blue one. blue is my favorite color..
If everything work like the PO said it did
generally speaking. take what the po says with a grain of salt. if you were buying, i'd say don't believe the po. they have motivation to lie or at least stretch the truth..
your gonna have to do your own asssement of the condition the boat is in. this will take some time, research and plain ol looking and then digging in to find out whats ok and what's not ok.
How hard is it to replace the impeller?
not hard, not easy. read the s/m on the proceedure. it's explained very well in the mercruiser s/m. fwiw. ya may consider removeing the drive. there is pm to do to the drive which requires drive removal. + it's much easier to separate the lower from the upper while it's on the bench. actually, removing the lower isn't to hard, it's putting it back while the upper is still on the boat that is a drag. 2 people job for sure. on the bench, it's a 1 person job.
a drive stand will help a lot in removing the drive + putting it back. check the adults only sticky at the top of the i/o forum. one of the items is making a drive stand. there is also much good info in that adults only sticky. have fun reading.
i can't help ya with your trim issue as i've never had to engineer a way to stabilize it w/o trim rams.. if ya go so far as to going after the gimble ring. let us (me) know how it goes. like i said. my suspision is that the whole boats gonna come apart to get that gimble ring off due to no access to the top of the gimble ring for the boat being in the way..
congrats on your new to you boat. hope all works out well for you...
use your s/m a lot and what ya don't understand post up here on iboats. lots of great minds wanting to help here.
