mercruiser trim switch

boat is a 1974 silverline antigua 18, mercruiser 888 ford 302.
there are 3 buttons o the trim switch I need to press 1 to go down and 2 to go up, why wont the single button up do anything?

Single button is probably your trailer/tilt switch. Puts the drive all the way up for transport. It may be a bad switch or wires loose/disconnected...

I believe that the one button is for trim - pushing both buttons is trailer. The reason the trim button doesn't work is probably because either the limit switch or the wiring (or both) is bad.
