Mercruiser Turn-Key Starting (TKS)

Anybody get this yet? I was wondering if it works as advertised and if anybody has heard of any problems. Does anybody have an estimated price on the after market upgrade kit for a 2004 5.0L. <br /><br />I'm not looking to upgrade the carb on my engine. The choke plate suits me just fine. I'm just curious.

My mechanic went to Merc school recently and they worked with it. He said it was great. It would be a tough call for me to decide between 5.0L MPI and 5.7 carb with TKS on a new boat.

If I had to choose between 5.0 MPI and a 5.7 carb (with OR without TKS), I'd get the 5.7 hands down. Displacement rules in my eyes for HP gains. Also, better low end torque and probably save some cash.<br /><br />Edit: Glad to hear the Merc mechanics think it's good and not just some engineering boondoggle.

We delivered a boat with one the other day. When they start up they sound like they have a vacuum leak until the engine reaches operating temperatures and then it goes away.Very strange.Sorry no long term results yet.

I have had a little experience with TKS.<br />( I report no problems... )<br /><br />It does help the starting, no question, but I would still rather have MPI. The Carb still doesn't do all the other things MPI does.<br /><br />If you haven't actually driven the 5.0MPI you should. It's the best running engine Mercruiser has ever made. At all speeds it's smoother and more responsive than even the 5.7(350MAGMPI)<br /><br />True it doesn't have the same power, but it's awful good at everything else.
