Hi All,

First off I am a new boat owner and am already learning that one has to take care of their own problems or have lots of cash and patience.

I am having a problem with my 1999 Mercruiser Thunderbolt 5.0L G+ Alpha stalling after running for about 1-2minutes. It will start up again and then stall out like it is running out of fuel.

This is not the full story though. I had a bigger problem before where it would run good for about 30minutes and then stall out. I had to wait about 2-3 hours before I could start it again. This problem was fixed by replacing the pickup coil. It ran fine for a day (3-4 hours of water time). The next day I started it up and had the problem as stated above. Could this problem be related to the repair of the coil.

Thanks
Jhan

Re: Mercruiser V8 -Thunderbolt V stalling

you replaced the pick up coil under the cap correct? when you reinstalled the rotor hopefully a new one. did you apply loctite to the alignment tang inside the shaft hole on rotor? that rotor must not move back and forth on shaft. this could be a ingnition coil breaking down as a first guess. I would try that first let us know...

Yes I replaced the pick up coil under the cap and installed a new rotor. No I did not apply loctite to the alignment tag inside the rotor. I will go ahead and do that....

Thanks
