mercruiser v8 which model?

I'm trying to find parts for a friend, all the info he has on his motor is

-some sort of v8...(descriptive right?)
-1984 gradywhite 24'
-carbed engine
-alpha one outdrive
-serial 92004189

Can anyone identify this?

Find the Mercruiser serial number for the engine. Should be on a tag, just aft and above the starter mouning area.

Ayuh,... It's a SBC, either a 305 or a 350....

What kinda Parts ya lookin' for,..??

And the serial tag may not be there if block has been changed..pretty likely at its age. 'nutcase

Fair enough, but without any decals, etc there is no visible difference between a 305 and a 350. Of course, on the plus side, there is probably no difference in the parts either... depending upon what you need.

Well you can tell from the valve covers if its a one piece rear main seal (87-99) unless someone upgraded the heads, and you can tell from the casting number if its a 305 or a 350. 350 blocks don't use bored out 305 blocks.
