Mercruiser Water supply hose length ??

I am doing a complete transom plate job on my 1985 mercruiser Alpha 1. Replacing all bellows ,water tube,gimbal bearing etc.<br /><br />What is the correct length for the water feed hose from transom plate to bell housing??<br /><br />The hose I removed was 14 inches exactly.<br />I read on another mercruiser site to make the hose 13 inches or it will be kinked when installed. The hose I removed was slightly egg shaped in the middle reducing the size slightly.

I have tried cutting hose back about an inch<br />to eliminate kink. Then when you put outdrive all the way up - hose pulls off of the hose barb<br />on outdrive.<br />Don't make a hose, use Merc. $10 They come in<br />3/4 and 5/8 ID Auto parts store hose is to soft.

That is what I was thinking also.<br />I bought hose at west marine and it is exactly the same hose that I took off. Goodyear 200psi water pressure hose. I figured the automotive hoses would not be durable enough for the application, they kink too easy.<br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />The confusion on the lenght came from a how to page on sterndrives.com.<br />It says: "We need to first install the waterhose.<br />This is where most people give-up.<br /><br />The water hose is VERY difficult to get in place!<br /><br />Measure the hose to 13" and cut off any extra.<br />Make sure you purchased the correct diameter hose!<br />The hose comes in two sizes, 5/8" and 3/4". I just bought one yesterday and haven't put it on yet. I bought the official Quicksilver / Mercury hose. It says 14" on the package, measures out to 14.5" with a tape measure.
