Kinda new at this boat thing. Just picked up a 1998 Marada. It hasa 5.0 I/O Mercruiser in it. Looking a the engine it looks like a small block chevy engine. Is it a chevy engine? Also the boat has beem sittng for a few yrs. What would be the best way to start this engine after sitting so long?
Thanks for looking.

Re: Mercruiser

You have a small block chevy with some modifications to make it marine worthy. The first thing you want to do is get rid of any gas in the tank and add fresh. Change the oil, plugs, and fuel separator then change the impeller in the outdrive to make sure you're pumping water through the engine. Charge the batteries and see if she fires. Welcome to iboats and keep us updated.

Pull all plugs and squirt some fogging oil in cylinders. Try turning over by hand. Might need a breaker bar to get initial movement. Once it is spinning by hand, start on the items above.
