Mercruiser's born on date?

GM/Chevy 305cid Mercruiser MIE 230hp inboards.<br />Serial #'s 6206083R and 6206069L.<br />Trying to figure when these were made/how old they are.<br />The owner has no idea,nor how many hours are on them.....<br /><br />Any ideas how old they might be or how to find out exactly?<br /><br />Also same question for the transmissions [and same owners answer...]<br />Borg Warner 71C<br />Model # 10-17-006 Serial # 9717<br />Model # 10-17-005 Serial # 3300 <br /><br />Baffled here in the Bahamas.

ConchyJoe, <br />Those are kind of hard to nail down to an exact year, but here's what I've found and this may be way off... <br /><br />230 MIE (4 BBL.) GM 305 V-8 serial# 5907058 THRU 0B522505 are model years 1981-1986<br /><br /> If you can contact a Mercruiser Dealer or parts dept. I believe that they would be able to nail down the exact year for you...

using your computer use the "search" function and try (simplicity marine drives) for your transmission.
