mercruser...cant get forward gear

I have a mercruser and the other day I took it out and I didn't have any gears. At first reverse worked but then it was hard to try to put into forward..then nothing. The linkage appears to be ok, but who knows. I tried adjusting the linkage, but nothing, still no gears. Is there a way to either adjust the linkage or do I have to take the stern drive off? Help, we finally got nice weather in Cleveland, and Im missing it!!!<br />Thanx

Take the linkage of at the shifter point in the rear of the boat. See if you can shift gears. If you can not then you have other problems. If you can check to see if your shifter is bound up. Then check you cable and start over again.
