I fired up my engine today and sounded like I had a loose belt as something was squealing. I thought my alternator belt need to be tightened or replaced. As I was manuvering the belt to take off the pulley, if I put pressure on the pulley and turn it with the belt the squealing sound is coming from the pulley attached to the water pump. No leaking from the water pump. Any thoughts on the squealing sound? Is the water pump going bad Doesn't appeat to be any play left/right, up or down when I wiggle the pulley.

if this is the motor in your 42 year old boat in your signature, it is possible the water pump is going

Sorry for another post. I forgot to attach video. Fired up my engine today (1984/260 Mercrusier, alpha 1, gen 1 closed cooling system), .and stabbed the throttle a few times, it sounded like I had a loose belt as something was squealing.I thought my alternator belt need to be tightened or replaced. As I was manuvering the alternator belt to take off the pulley and inspect, I found if I put pressure on the pulley and turn it with the belt the squealing sound is coming from the pulley attached to the water pump (see video). No leaking from the water pump. Any thoughts on the squealing sound? Is the water pump going bad Doesn't appea to be any play left/right, up or down when I wiggle the pulley. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Ayuh,....... Those pulleys are Nasty, 'n the belt is so worn out, it don't ride up on the pulley where it should,......
Generally speakin', the seal fails before the bearing, but you might have an exception,....
Pull it apart, access the situation, 'n replace what's bad,....
You might be able to sand, 'n paint the pulleys,...... or not,.....
