Mercrusier Swap???

I have a 1990 Bayliner 17ft capri with a Mercrusier 140 in it that is blown. I can get a 1987 Mercrusier 165 (4 cyl) from a friend. My question is can this be just a swap or do I have to change anything? A BIG thanks in advance! Jeff

That is a 470 type engine, so your gear ratio in the outdrive will be wrong. Better off sticking with a 140.

I think there's a lot of stuff that's different between the 140 & 470. Agree with stonyloam that you should stick with a 140. Should be fairly inexpensive to get a replacement remanufactured motor. They're pretty common.
