Mercrusier TRS / TR

Just purchased TRS or TR diss assembled and the seperate gearbox. How can i establish what brand gear box? It is not a built on part of the housing. The part of the transom shield that the drive shaft passes through has been damaged [the drive bellow is placed over this]. I am considering inserting a marine grade allum cylinder through this [tight fit] and have the motor side built up the same circumference as the the original. All this would be welded in place. I would appreciare any thoughts and where would i be able to buy a manual. Thanks in advance.

The factory Manual for the TR/TRS can be found Right Here... No Charge...

As for your repair Idea,...
Sure it'll probably work,... as long as things are brought back to Spec...

I have been trying to find the elusive TRS manual also, I didn't realize they were going to become so hard to find! Any ideas on where to get manual #5?

The transmission should have a tag on it. If the trans and bellhousing to engine are one piece and aluminum it's a Merc Trans ll. If the trans is steel and the bellhousing to engine is a seperate part than it's a Borg Warner.

Don't even waste your time and money trying to repair the gimble housing like that. There are plenty of used ones out there. The engine side of that hole is tapered where the trans slides in. If the "transom shield" you are refering to is actually the transom plate than that isn't the part needing replacement. You need the gimble housing outside on the transom.
