On page 75 of the Oct TBM, they talk about 2005 Merc carb's having an "enrichment system" that eliminates the choke plate.

"Merc's 'Turn Key Starting' will be standard on all new carb'ed sterndrive and inboard engines."

Goes on to say that it can be retrofitted on engines from '97 and newer.

If that is the case, sign me up for the 5.7L carb engine vs. the 5.0L TBI having the same price.

Re: Merc's New "Turn Key Starting" Carb's

Merc has been using the enrichment system on outboards for years. And if it's anything like that, it's no better than a choke plate.
But there is a lot more to EFI than just easy starting. EFI covers all speeds of the engine.

Just a guess, you are young enough to have always had a car with EFI, am I right????? :D

Don, yes, the article says it is just like the outboard design. Interesting that it is not that great on the OB's.

No, I do remember carb's on cars. I guess it has been too long to remember how bad ;) .
