mercuiser alfa1 problems

I was running my boat then i started to hereing a humming noise coming from my outdrive. I just had the waterpump and impeller changed this year.I shut it down checked to see if everything was ok ,it look ok,so i tried to get to my dock noise kept getting louder and then all of a sudden outdrive just disengaged and then smelt rubber burnt smell,shut it down ,tried to put in gear again won't go in gear is my outdrive gone now or could it be just the water pump and impeller.

could be:

-spun prop hub

-engine coupler shot

-smoked gears in the drive

gotta get the boat out of the water to fully inspect

i would hope that the place that replaced the water pump pressure tested the drive before filling with lube

coupler = rubber smell and a little smoke, mine would squeal afterwards when i cranked engine. if you reach in ther you will get oi;y rubber on hans at driveshaft and coupler.

Thanks it was thec coupler on engine did the work myself saved a ton of money,I suspect the marine place never lined up the outdrive,but how do i prove it,so i did it myself.
