ok I dont have the cash to bring the boat to the shop , so if I cant figure out how to get the boat to go in neutral from forward because of the interrupt switch can I just turn the key to off for a second put in to neutral than turn key back on before stalling? the reverse works fine.

Sounds more like the cable need replacing, or the slide cavity in the drive is filled with crud...

That will work, but why don't you try to fix the problem?

Well, Don cables have been changed just a few years ago and there is no junk in the drive . I disonnected both upper and lower cables and tried moving the pivot to activate the switch and could not move should I be able to move this by hand with cables disconnected? also tested switch is good.

Yes, it should move easily. Post a picture of it please.

Remove the nylok nut and clean up the stud and the switch arm, then grease it nicely and put it back on....

I just found the installation manual from when my father bought this boat new and its say's to remove that bolt in the center. I dont know why or how long its been there. so is the manual right it needs to be removed?

Found some information on that setup. Seems that screw is used for adjusting the cable, and is supposed to be removed when you are complete.

It's hard to see the screw on the white drive in the picture below from the manual, but it's there and called the lockout screw.

Re: mercuiser interrupt switch adjustment

well I adjusted the cables now just have to get it in the water to try it. I hope it did'nt damaged the cables or anything else by trying to put in neutral with that lockout screw in. My fathers father bought the boat new in 68 my fathers said ever since he took over the boat a long time ago its been that way, but never looked in to it.

mis-adjusted,dry,damaged cable or some corrosion in the shift system.should never work going in a gear only coming out of a gear.
