1st time posting here. Just like subject says. Got a 2007 SeaRay 205 sport. We bought it with 4 hrs on the meter, its got 224 now. I did get the 100 hr service done but nothing since then, just oil changes. Today, she overheated. by the time we got back to the dock, I saw the temp suddenly drop to 170, so maybe it was a stuck t-stat. So I get her home, take off the t-stat housing and find black crud and flakes in the housing. I finally got the t-stat out and found it loaded up with gunk.

So, I'm thinking, since I'm here, lets change out the water pump, question I have is, is there any way or stuff to flush out my engine of the crud? Like something I can make up to make it a closed system, toss some descale in the cooling system and run it for a bit? I really don't want this crud in there with new parts.

thanks for any help

Change your impeller....flush the system to find the parts from the failed impeller

Since the exhaust manifold and elbows need a constant flow of water to cool the exhaust, it would be difficult to set the engine up as a recirculating cooling flow.

Try the back flushing that Scott recommended.

Are you fresh or salt water?

and find black crud and flakes in the housing.

Ayuh,.... The black bits are probably pieces of the raw water impeller,....

Ok, check/look/replace impeller. I'm fresh and salt water, more brackish. Gulf Coast but like to play around the inlets where the rivers come out. Not a big fan of salt water.

160 is the normal t-stat. Yours has definitely seen better days and I think your running more towards salt than brackish.
