I currently have a 1979 70hp Johnson that I love and I am looking to jump to a boat that has a Sea Ray branded 100 hp Mercury. It is a 1989 4 cylinder. I have a couple of questions:

1) I've always heard about people disabling the oil pump and manually mixing. Would that be recommended?
2) The water pump on this motor did not "pee" until he really hit the gas. My current motor sprays water all the time. Is this an issue or will this motor only spray when a thermostat is triggered?
3) Is this a good motor? Any issues to be aware of?

Thanks in advance. I really don't want to buy a lemon.
