Mercury 115 hp powerhead question

I have a good 1997 Mercury 115 hp that was partially submerged, pickled, and it was running for a few minutes, and then seized. I was told it might be a lower bearing. My question is...could I try to tear it down myself without experience? I am fairly handy, and I bought a manual, and should be able to follow directions, and keep things organized. The questions I have are: 1) Which special tools will I need? and 2)How could I know which part or parts will need addressing or replacing? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated, because I can't afford to have it rebuilt, and will have to sell the motor for parts. I'd like to try because I don't have much to lose at this point.
