Its a 1972 115hp serial 33668##
Was working fine the other day when I did the link and sync. Even ran after the l&s. Got a new tach in to start working on the carb settings and idols. Got it put in and moved the brown wire to the stator wire to see if the new tach would work and it doesn't start. Put everything back as original....doesn't start. It sounds like a dead battery but i know that is not the case. I have the cowling and top cover off. It turns the flywheel maybe 20? at best. Literally halfe a second then quits like a dead battery.
I had the battery tested at oriely's last night and it is fine. I have even swapped batteries. Same situation. Next we checked the solenoid by replacing it with a new one that I know works. Still Nothing. I took the starter off and had oriley's test it for me and it worked fine. Even jumped it to a battery myself, and it turns no problem. put it back in and still not starting. We re-ran all of the ground wires and power wires thinking maybe just an amperage problem or bad ground somewhere and still nothing.
Now here is the weird part i figured out today. If i turn the fly wheel 90? or so by hand, the starter tries to turn it more. Not enough to start, but at least a second or two.
I'm at a loss. I am thinking the starter is kaput. They couldn't match the test to it so we used a similar one instead...I think the set the machine for a 1970s mercury straight six as close they could.
