How many foot pounds of torque does it take to remove a prop shaft retainer nut from a 115HP Mercury lower unit? I remove the square pin but I broke a 1/2" drive ratchet trying to get it to break lose. but I still didnt get it loose!

Hi Ranger
Is there a tab washer under the nut? The tab washer locks the nut. You will need to straighten the tabs.
It is not a good idea to reuse the tab washer.

Wow! I dunno exact torque specs (can look them up but) If you put a 1/2" drive socket on there and BROKE the puppy, ypou can be sure that nut is siezed big time. Lots of blaster-soaking is in order, and carefull heat, if you got it. I would use a breaker bar only as a last resort, and try imnpacting first.
I just removed one last month ,and it was about as tight as a standard lug nut on a wheel, best i can recall.
