How do I find out what year this motor is all I can find is this serial #4312427

Go to the Maxrules.com website and look in the Merc model year guide.

Hmmm! It isn't listed there the serial # I have on the very front of the motor mount and that's the only number I see on the motor and it's say's serial#4312427

OK i guess i have a 1976 then by one place. Still didn't see my actual serial # but I guess it's in the middle some where.
1150 (115.0) 4310785 - 4567951 1976

A 1976 Merc will have a distributor ignition, and a blue band on the wrapcowl, with red trim on the blue band.

Thanks Chris1956 Yes it does have a distributor not sure of the colors on the cowl. I think it's just blues and silver... But going by those last numbers I posted and my actual number looks to be a 76. The boat is a 76/77 model so I guess it could be the original motor to the boat.
