I am of the understanding that the block is the same for mercury 135-175hp.

What is the differnce between them?

Can I make a 135 a 150 or 175?

Thanks

So what is the difference? Is there a way to get more HP out of my 135?

Thanks

Depending on the year you can change carbs and get 150 hp but thats about all as engine runs out of exhaust port to make hp at around 6000 rpm. The earlier 150 Xr2 blocks can make about 160 hp and run the higher rpm.

Thanks for the reply.

So the main difference is the carbs? Do they have a different bore? I have a '99 135 with carbs on a Tri-toon.

The boat is rated for a 175. It does OK with the 135 (got it used for the price of a lower unit).

Just wanted to see if I could sqeeze a bit more HP out of it. If not I'll be looking for a 175 in coming months.

On a toon your not going to really see much improvement with 15 hp increase. You will see a little better hole shot and couple of mph on top end but thats all..
