I have a 1999 Fun Sport 215 deck boat that weighs 2100lbs (according to Nada.com) I bought it without an engine. My question is will a 1989 Mercury 135hp v6 with 120lbs compression be under powered for this boat? I live in Florida an will be spending most of my time out in the gulf of mexico but no more then 5-10 miles out max if that. Maybe max 3-4 adults an couple kids. If im under powered is there modifications I can make without cracking this powerhead open to say make it a 150hp say swapping carbs from a merc 150hp? Please let me know, thanks!

If you changed the carbs and tuner you'd have a 150 and probably not notice a bit of difference. 135 HP is plenty to move that barge around if the motor is in good shape. 25 year old motor in good shape? Really?

Its in good shape, good compression, not one bit of rust on any head bolts or anywhere else, no peeling block paint, starts first bump of key, always been greased, no steering tube play an always used in fresh water on a 19' sea ray open bow. Yes in great shape in my opinion. I just didn't have $4-5k to spend on fresh rebuilt newer motor.
